The Launch Box Life with Kaylee Scanlin
At The Launch Box, we are entrepreneurs serving entrepreneurs, but we took very different journeys to get here. In this series, readers will learn more about how we each live #thelaunchboxlife every day.
Kaylee is a technical project manager specializing in software and machine learning engineering initiatives. With over two years of experience in software development and AI research, she is passionate about leveraging machine learning to build innovative, client-focused solutions that solve complex technical challenges.
Explain your career path—how did you become a Technical Project Intern?
I was a machine learning engineer first! As I advanced in my career, I realized that a major bottleneck in development teams is the level of knowledge leadership has about the process and tools. I thought that if I ever wanted to lead a development team, I should gain experience on both the technical and management sides.
Can you describe your personal self?
I am a curious and driven people-person who is always learning! I love tackling the most difficult and interesting problems with a team, and am energized by overcoming challenges and ‘putting the pieces together. ’ Outside of work, when I’m not spending time on side projects, I’m reading, hiking, or spending time with friends.
What are your top personal values, and how do you apply those to your work?
Part of why I wanted to work for a consulting firm is that I love working with a variety of great people on difficult problems. This requires grit, creativity, and teamwork. In technology, especially, you will often hit knowledge gaps and walls, and what separates a good solution from a great one is how creatively you can problem-solve–and whether you have the grit to continue trying after you’ve failed the first dozen times. And of course, you can do much more with a team of brilliant people than you can alone.
Why did you choose to join The Launch Box?
I was inspired by the leadership team! You can tell everyone is dedicated to advancing the company's mission, and it’s incredibly inspiring how close we are to leadership. I love the energy everyone brings to the table, and I get to face exciting challenges and use my creativity every day.
What is a common misconception you hear about Project Management?
You don’t need to have technical skills to do it! Every industry has its own technique for project management–tech included.
What is the most fulfilling part of your role at TLB?
The most fulfilling part of my role is that I am working with incredible people. I am constantly learning something new from my colleagues, regardless of their background, discipline, or level of experience. It is incredibly rewarding knowing that I am contributing to the growth of new companies through the tools I develop.
What about the future of TLB are you most excited about?
I am excited to see how The Launch Box and its clients grow! There is so much to learn from everyone on the team and everyone that we work
with. There is so much potential ahead.
