The Launch Box Life with Treston Fallavollita

At The Launch Box, we are entrepreneurs serving entrepreneurs, but we took very different journeys to get here. In this series, readers will learn more about how we each live #thelaunchboxlife every day.

Treston is a Texas State University student studying Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, she has spent ten years honing her skills through personal projects. He brings a problem-solver's mindset and a natural ability to connect with others.

Explain your career path—how did you become an Operations Intern?

As a middle-school student, I already knew I would major in Computer Science in college. I’ve always enjoyed programming, but college was my opportunity to study what makes someone a good engineer. After completing my software engineering course, I felt prepared to offer my skills to a company. The Launch Box saw my potential and offered me a position on their internship team.

Can you describe your personal self?

My personal self is largely defined through my hobbies. During the summer, I enjoy having time to read and crochet, and over the semester, I have weekly band practice with my friends where I play electric guitar. Recently, I’ve been learning how to DJ in my spare time, as I find it satisfying to mix songs together to create something new.

What are your top personal values, and how do you apply those to your work?

My top personal value is creating a space where everyone feels comfortable and welcomed. I believe that people achieve their best work when they have a team that they feel confident working with. I can already feel the kindness from those at The Launch Box, and I hope to bring more of this energy when I start my position.

Why did you choose to join The Launch Box?

The Launch Box saw something in me, and I believe that’s special. Being recognized and feeling useful in your work makes for a fulfilling career, and The Launch Box has demonstrated that they prioritize this. I feel welcomed at The Launch Box, and I’m eager to begin.

What is a common misconception you hear about being an intern?

I often hear that interns are undermined and pushed aside. Immediately, The Launch Box addressed this misconception by offering our team of interns a new team name. Language has power and giving us the space to request how the company refers to us feels supportive.

What is the most fulfilling part of your role at TLB?

Currently I feel fulfilled by the fact that I’ll be working directly with a shareholder in a department to create something new. Software engineering is a passion that developed from my ability to create something with technology to support others. My current role will play into my motivations well, and I feel grateful for that.

What about the future of TLB are you most excited about?

I am excited about working with my team of interns. Some of them are friends, others are only acquaintances, but I can’t wait to see how we learn to work together and support one another. Already we are making plans to attend meetings in Austin through a big carpool, and it is thoughtfulness like this that makes me feel connected as a team.
