The Launch Box Life with Emily Chung
At The Launch Box, we are entrepreneurs serving entrepreneurs, but we took very different journeys to get here. In this series, readers will learn more about how we each live #thelaunchboxlife every day.
Emily is a creative and outgoing advertising graduate student who’s passionate about social media, content, and connecting with people. She loves coming up with new ideas and bringing them to life, and she is excited to use her creativity and perspective to help brands tell their stories.
Explain your career path—how did you become a Social Content Intern?
I studied advertising and psychology for undergrad and am currently studying advertising in my grad program, so I’ve always gravitated towards social content/analysis roles!
Can you describe your personal self?
I would describe myself as a hardworking ambivert who makes funny jokes occasionally.
What are your top personal values, and how do you apply those to your work?
My top personal values are accountability, loyalty, and empathy. In my work, I hold myself accountable to be able to accomplish the things I said I would, and to ask questions when I need to. At the same time, I hold others accountable for their responsibilities. I would consider myself extremely loyal as a person, and as an employee, I would much rather build my network in one place than hop around different departments. I think I am also empathetic, as in I can understand where people are coming from. I don’t just see coworkers as coworkers, but as people that I work with.
Why did you choose to join The Launch Box?
I was drawn to the opportunity to work with different companies and see how marketing strategies can be adapted to different brands and audiences. I also liked that the role would allow me to be creative while still developing my strategic and analytical skills.
What is a common misconception you hear about being a Social Content intern?
A common misconception I hear about social content is that it’s just about making posts look good or coming up with fun ideas. While creativity is definitely important, I think there’s much more strategy involved in creating effective content. You have to understand the audience, stay up to date with trends, communicate a brand’s message, and think about what will actually drive engagement.
What is the most fulfilling part of your role at TLB?
I think the most fulfilling part of my role will be combining creativity with strategy to create content that actually connects with an audience. I’m excited to have the opportunity to work on real social content, learn what makes content effective, and see how different ideas can help build a brand’s presence.
What about the future of TLB are you most excited about?
What I’m most excited about for the future of TLB is seeing how the company continues to grow and evolve while helping its portfolio companies build successful brands. I’m especially excited about the opportunities to expand TLB’s digital presence, experiment with new marketing strategies, and leverage emerging technologies like AI.
