My Internship: What I Did
When I started as the Social Media Intern at The Launch Box, I was a junior at Texas State University. I knew I was creative, I knew I liked marketing, and I thought I knew how social media worked. What I didn't know was how much goes on behind the scenes to make good creative content work.
For starters, I had no idea how to analyze analytics. Numbers, charts, engagement rates? Suddenly, LinkedIn was a lot more complicated than just posting something and hoping people liked it. I also quickly learned that working with different clients means juggling a whole lot of different personalities, voices, and creative styles. One client might want something playful and bold, while another needs something more polished and professional. The challenge was figuring out how to bring my own ideas to the table while ensuring the work felt true to each client.
I stayed with TLB throughout the rest of my college experience, all the way until I graduated. What started as an internship became a much bigger learning experience and a place where I could see how much I could grow.
My Internship: What I Learned
One of my biggest takeaways from my time at TLB was realizing that being creative isn't just about coming up with a good idea. It's about knowing when an idea works, who it's for, and how to make it feel authentic to the brand. That wasn't something I figured out overnight.
I learned so much from Amy Kenly and Isabel Espinal along the way. They gave me the opportunity to try things, ask questions, make mistakes, and, most importantly, explore my own ideas. I never felt like I was just there to check things off a list. I was encouraged to think, create, and figure things out for myself.
Over time, I became more comfortable looking at analytics and understanding what the numbers were telling us. I learned how to shift my creative approach depending on the client. I learned that sometimes the best idea isn't the flashiest one, and that the little details can make a big difference. But probably my favorite part was realizing that I didn't have to choose between being creative and being strategic. The two work better together.
When I look back at the person who started at TLB as a junior, there is a lot I didn't know yet. I didn't know how to analyze analytics. I didn't know how to switch between different client voices. I didn't always know if an idea would work. But I had the chance to learn. TLB gave me the space to grow, experiment, and become more confident in my ideas, and doing that from my junior year through graduation made the experience so much more than an internship.
